About the shop: Chaleca
Chaleca makes knitted garments that are hand-produced by women in a knitting cooperative in Bolivia. We use pure natural materials, especially alpaca yarn, but also sustainably produced sheep and angora wool. We have close contact with our knitting shoes and are proud to pay them reasonable compensation for their enormously skilled craftsmanship.
With timeless garments that stand the test of time, both in terms of quality and style, we want to contribute to a sustainable fashion industry and the development of a knitting tradition that draws inspiration from classic and traditional patterns.
We try to contribute to the greatest social benefit through our production and minimize negative environmental impact. We climate compensate our freight from suppliers and to our customers.
About the product
Who made it?
The garment is made by women in a knitting cooperative outside La Paz in Bolivia. The pattern skirt is knitted completely by hand and the other parts are knitted on small hand knitting machines. We are proud to be able to pay a reasonable salary for the knitters’ fantastic craftsmanship.
Material
The garment is made of 100% Bolivian alpaca wool, which is a lightweight, durable and warming natural material. Alpaca wool is also known not to itch or cause allergies. The alpacas graze freely in the mountains and are cut only by hand. The yarn is spun at a local spinning mill outside La Paz that uses environmentally friendly processes for washing and dyeing.
