Melvita was founded in 1983 in Ardéche, in the south of France by Bernard Chevilliat – a beekeeper and biologist with a great love for nature. The name Melvita comes from the Latin words “Mel” for honey and “Vita” for life.

Inspired by the pattern of beeswax cakes and the properties of honey, Bernard Chevilliat created his first product, a soap in hexagon format based on honey. The success was immediate and in just a few years, the range was supplemented with, among other things, shampoo, bath milk, toner, skin care oils and creams, based on natural and organic ingredients. Even now, 30 years later, the Melvita factory still stands in the barren landscape of the Ardeche.

The brand is known as one of the pioneering organic beauty brands in France and was one of the first brands to receive ECOCERT for health and beauty products in France in 2002. Melvita has been acquired by the L’Occitane group since 2008 and has since sold beauty products worldwide. .

Melvita works with selected growers to guarantee nature’s own capacity to be able to regrow. Melvita has developed its own policy for sustainable harvesting. From the mountain ranges of Vercors to the Chilean slopes, the quality of the ingredients and their imprint on nature are ensured.

Visions around sustainability

Melvita uses recycled and recyclable plastic as far as possible and prefers screen printing instead of affixed labels. Melvita also avoids redundant paper packaging and the paper used comes from sustainably managed forests.
